Starting or Improving your Dual Language Bilingual Education Program? Trying to Build Culture at Your School When

Dr. Aradhana Mudambi is a national expert on Dual Language Education.

Are you looking to start a Dual Language program at your district or school? Or are you looking to improve an existing program? Do you need to build culture at a school where the Dual Language program exists as a strand within the school? Dr. Mudambi has experience starting and improving structures and instruction for Dual Language programs and building culture at institutions where the Dual Language Bilingual Education program is part of the educational entity.

Here’s a sample of what we can provide:

Workshops – All PD’s are adaptable for both district and school leaders as well as teachers.

Dual 101This is 3-series PD (9 hours) is beneficial when introducing a new Dual Language Program to the district/school so that everybody at the school and/or central office understands what Dual Language is and how it is different and similar to SEI programs in the institution both in structure and instruction. It builds educators’ capacity to work with our multilingual students and with one another, thereby preventing isolation, preserving culture, and maximizing student results across programs.

This series is also useful in repairing and/or building culture when there is an existing Dual Language program in the district and/or at the school level. Often schools tend to feel a sentiment of “two schools within one building.” This program helps teachers and administrators understand Dual Language programming and how it is different and similar to SEI programs while building both educators’ capacity to work with multilingual students and with each other regardless of program.. (Any of these topics can be broken up into smaller PD’s).

This PD can be adapted for administrators, Dual Language teachers, or for all teachers regardless of program.

7 Sides of Dual Language Instruction™ – A package of workshops planned around the 7 Sides of Dual Language Instruction. We can choose PDs based on the needs of the school/school district. The 7 sides of Dual Language Instruction include: structure (admittance to program, language allocation plan, MTSS/RTI), Separation of Language/Translanguaging/Bridging, Speaking (Oracy) & Schema (Background Knowledge), Standards-Based Instruction, Productive Struggle, Scaffolds and Supports, and Subject-Related Literacy. (Each of the 7 Sides can be a PD on its own.)

Language Acquisition Supports – A hands-on approach to understanding how to support language acquisition for language beginners. Participants will experience being language beginners themselves in this PD and leave with concrete strategies on how to support their language beginners. Good for working on separation of language.

Language Objectives – Understand and practice writing language objectives for Dual Language programs

Spanish Literacy – Learn how to teach Spanish literacy.

Bridging PD – A focus on understanding the elements of bridging.

Sociocultural Competence vs. Biculturalism – Sociocultural competence is the most misunderstood pillar of DL education. We will explore what sociocultural competence is and what it is not, how it differs from biculturalism, and how to build it among our students and staff.
